This little outfit was fun and quick to crochet. Each year I make outfits for the dolls I purchased my great nieces and I believe this is the first time I have crocheted anything.
I purchased this cape pattern from the Craftsy website. I was pleased to get it on sale but I believe the pattern is now $5.99. It has sizing from doll to adult. It also has a video link to learn the chain-less foundation half double crochet which I found easy to learn.
The yarn I used was Impeccable from Michael’s Crafts in a Fresh Lilac with the matching solid color. I used 1 skein of the multi color and scraps of the solid.
You must do a diameter measurement to make sure your gauge is correct. I found this a little difficult, since it is hard to get your foundation perfectly round. I did go down 1 size hook and could probably have gone down 2. Other than that this is a very easy pattern. I crocheted the last 2 rows in a contrasting color and continued around the cape with this color yarn also.
After finishing the cape I decided to crochet a matching hat and found a great website that lists all kind of free patterns for 18″ dolls. Here is that website. I used this pattern for the hat and crocheted the last row in the same contrast yarn as the cape. For the flower I used this pattern and crocheted it with a size D hook. The flower is sewn on with yarn.
I used this pattern for the boots and added antique buttons from my grandmother’s collection using thread.
Cute! I’ll have to show these pics to my mom – she’s the crocheter in the family. I think she could recreate this for my youngest, who’d love to have the set.
Hope she does it was fun to make. You can make matching capes for the child also which I may do.
