I really like the way this afghan turned out. I found the pattern for this square on Ravelry created by Julie Yeager. The pattern for the block is $1.99 but well worth it. The instructions are written well and the pictures amazingly helpful.
To create the petals I did a stitch I have never done before but it was easy. There are two size squares included in the instructions a 12″ square and a 9″ square.
These can be done in one color or up to 5. I chose to do my squares in 2 colors the flower and the border. I was going to do a scrappy afghan but decided that with 12″ squares it was a little much so settled on 4 different colors, 2 shades of purple and 2 shades of aqua.
The measurements for my afghan were 36″ x 60″ which was 3 squares by 5 squares. I also crocheted a hdc border around the whole afghan when finished. I used a little over 4 skeins of black and 1 skein of each color and used a size I hook.
I joined the squares using a slip stitch. Here is a great video from Youtube that shows different ways to join squares.
Julie also has a free block of the month which can be found here. You will have to create a sign on for Ravelry which is a great place to find lots of patterns and many of them are free.
What a pretty pattern – love it.
