Sling Bag – Free Pattern

My friend found this pattern on Pinterest and made one for herself.  Since I am headed to a Precepts training  I decided to make one too.  I have to carry a notebook, my bible, colored pencils and paper.  This bag will be perfect.

The pattern does not include a pocket but I made one for the outside and one for the inside by cutting two pieces of fabric 8″ square and then sewed a 1/2″ seam.  I then topstitched them onto the sling before sewing the two sling pieces together. The pockets end up being 7″ square.  You could make the pocket any size you want and put any number of pockets on either the inside or out.  I placed the pockets centered on the seams.  The pockets do add a but of extra bulk when turning the pieces inside out so be gentle.

I also finished the joining of the strap with two rows of stitching instead of making a rectangle.

This bag is reversible and I decided to use a solid for the inside.  I  made the pocket on the black the same fabric as the printed fabric.  You could have all kinds of fun playing around with fabrics and could actually make the bag with 4 different fabrics if you wanted.  Perhaps 2 solids and 2 prints.

Thanks Char for this wonderful pattern!!
