I stopped using store-bought deodorant the end of April. At first I tried using just baking soda and it made me itch, but it worked. I then searched for a recipe and found the deodorant I have been using since the beginning of May. It is 3 equal parts of coconut oil, arrowroot powder and baking soda. I made a double batch of the recipe and have been using it every day. It works great.
About 3 weeks I began getting swollen lymph glands under my arms. One would swell, go away, and then another would swell. I then began itching so I stopped using my deodorant. So far so good. I am still not sure it is the deodorant but decided to use something else.
I could have made my original recipe with just arrowroot powder but decided to go to my favorite site “Frugally Sustainable“. I found a recipe there for sensitive skin and gave it a try last night. I sure hope this works . If nothing else my underarms will be nice and smooth.
-1 tbsp. cocoa butter
-1 tbsp. coconut oil
-1 tbsp. shea butter
-1 tbsp. beeswax
-2 1/2 tbsp. arrowroot powder
-1 tbsp. baking soda
-1/4 tsp. vitamin E oil
-15 drops essential oil of your choice
-2 capsules powdered probiotics
I did not add essential oil because of my sensitivity.
This recipe made 3 little silicone muffin cups full.
I finally found a local beekeeper’s address and will be able to get some beeswax soon! I had even contacted the beekeeper society to get some and never heard back. Hope to have some in the next few weeks and will try this! Thanks!
Yeah for you!!! There are sooo many great homemade products that use bees wax in them.
Glad to have found this. I am having the same issue with the lymph node swelling. It did not happen the first couple of weeks I used it, I am thinking it is the baking soda, as well. I am putting this on my list to try next week. Thanks for posting!
Danni, hope it helps. I am almost sure it was the baking soda now.
